Ages 2 – 12

The YMCA at Schilling Farms dance program strongly believes in making dance accessible to everyone in our community. Our goal is to provide students with a comprehensive dance education that promotes confidence, self-expression, body awareness, musicality, and appreciation for the arts.

Offering dance classes for ages 2-12 years in multiple genres for younger dancers at beginner levels. The Y Dance programs encourage the technical progression of dancers and provide consistent and knowledgeable instruction at each level of development.

YOUNG DANCER

CREATIVE MOVEMENT (Ages 2-3)

Students will learn age-appropriate basic dance movements, positions and terminology in an active playful manner. Ballet slippers and dance apparel are recommended.

TOT BEGINNER BALLET/TAP COMBO (AGES 3-5)

An introduction to dance! A great class exposing dancers to both Ballet and Tap! Age appropriate advancement in ballet skills including basic technique and terminology. Age appropriate advancement in tap skills and combinations including heel steps, toe steps, shuffles and flaps. Ballet and tap shoes are required, dance apparel recommended.

TOT BEGINNER TAP (AGES 3-5)

Age appropriate advancement in tap skills and combinations including heel steps, toe steps, shuffles and flaps.  Tap shoes are required, dance apparel recommended.

BEGINNING

JR. BEGINNER BALLET (AGES 6-12)

Students will be introduced to the skills of an age-appropriate ballet class, in an active, playful manner.  Ballet slippers are required.  Dance apparel is required.

JR. BEGINNER TAP (AGES 6-12)

Age appropriate advancement in tap skills and combinations including heel steps, toe steps, shuffles and flaps. Tap shoes and dance apparel are required.

JR. JAZZ (AGES 6-12)

The basics of Jazz for dancers who want to stretch, turn and leap! Fun and energetic music while incorporating proper control and technique. Dance apparel, or equivalent, and jazz shoes are required.

JR. KIDS HIP HOP (AGES 5-12)

Students will be introduced to fun street hip hop steps, easy to learn fun hip hop moves, and combinations of jazz technique set to age appropriate music.  Fun for all!  Boys and girls welcome!  Tennis shoes are required.

Additional Information:

  • – Tuition is based on the 12 week semester
  • – Option to draft every month on the 15th is available starting in October after initial payment is made
  • – Classes start Saturday, September 8th and run through Thursday, December 13th.
  • – No classes during the week of October 6th-12th, and November 17th-23rd.
  • – Showcase is on Saturday, December 15th at 2pm
  • – Annual Recital is in May

Meet Our Instructors

Dana Fernandez spent close to 8 years as a Dance Instructor for kids 2 to 10 years of age at the Great South Bay YMCA Dance program in New York where she taught Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Irish Step.  Dana has taken dance classes since she was three years old.   She has also worked as a Pre-K and First Grade Teacher for both SCS and in New York as well.

Noelia Jones has vast experience working with various ages and genres of dance.  Most recently, she taught Ballet, Jazz, and Tap where she also developed a dance curriculum for ages from 2 years-10 years old.  Her formal training is from Mary Mount Manhattan College where she earned an Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree.  Noelia’s additional dance training consists of Alvin Ailey American Dance School and The Rosetta LeNoire Musical Theater Academy.

Lacey Stern  trained and competed with The Southern Strutt Dance Company in Irmo, SC, under the direction of Nancy Giles and gained experience training under well renowned choreographers, such as, Dee and Tina Caspary, Justin Giles, Wade Robson, and Ray Leeper.  Lacey graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor Degree in Exercise Science and Public Health.  She was a member of the Carolina Girls Competitive Dance Team and a Carolina Coquette dancer with the University of South Carolina Marching Band.  For over 10 years, Lacey has had the opportunity to teach and choreograph for students of all ages in the genres of contemporary, ballet, hip hop, tap, jazz, and lyrical.  She is also the current dance coach for the Collierville High School Dragon Guard!
